Thanks to record proceeds from its annual Concours d’Elegance Car Show, the Rotary Club of Forest Grove has awarded a record $32,000 in scholarships to graduating high school students in Western Washington County.

Scholarship awards from $1,000 to $5,000 were presented to seven seniors from Forest Grove High School, four seniors from Banks High School, and one senior attending Silvies River Charter School, an online charter school. Scholarship applications were judged on academic success, extra-curricular involvement, community service and an assessment of written essays.

The Scholarship Program is funded through proceeds from the Rotary Club of Forest Grove’s annual Concours d’Elegance. The 52nd edition of the high-caliber classic car show takes place on Sunday, July 19, on Pacific University’s Forest Grove Campus.

“We are incredibly proud of the achievements of all of these graduating seniors. They represent some of the best that our community has to offer,” said Sharon Olmstead, chair of the Rotary Club of Forest Grove’s Scholarship Committee. “We are also grateful to the local community and the classic car community for their support of the Concours d’Elegance, which continues to make this program grow.”

Applicants to the Rotary Club of Forest Grove Scholarship program must be graduating seniors residing in the Forest Grove, Banks and Gaston school district attendance areas. The funds are available to use for first-year tuition at any four-year college or vocational school in the United States.

Of the 12 recipients, nine are choosing to attend college in the state of Oregon. Three of the recipients plan to attend to Pacific University.

In addition to these scholarship awards, the club also maintains an endowed scholarship at Pacific University to benefit students from Forest Grove, Banks and Gaston. This year, the club contributed $14,700 to continue the growth of that fund.

Over its 51-year history, proceeds from the Concours d’Elegance have been used by the Rotary Club of Forest Grove to award over $1 million in scholarships to local students.

As a collective group, Rotary clubs in Western Washington County (Beaverton, Forest Grove, Forest Grove Daybreak and Hillsboro) are demonstrating their commitment to youth and higher education by awarding $125,000 in scholarships this year.

In addition to proceeds from the Concours, individual donations to the Rotary Club of Forest Grove’s scholarship program are accepted. Individuals wishing to donate can send checks (payable to the Foundation of the Rotary Club of Forest Grove) to the Rotary Club of Forest Grove, PO Box 125, Forest Grove, OR 97116, or can donate online at the club’s website, FGRotary.org.
