Rotary Rewind – Jan. 18, 2026

Posted By admin

Planning continues for the 2026 Forest Grove Concours d’Elegance, scheduled for Sunday, July 19. The annual car show is a fundraiser for the Rotary Club of Forest Grove’s Scholarship Program and service outreaches.

If you did not make it to our last Rotary Club of Forest Grove meeting, here is what you missed…

This Week – Social Event: It is the third week of the month, so we will not have a Wednesday noon meeting. Instead, please plan on joining us at Zesti Food Carts on Thursday at 6:30 p.m., for some fun and fellowship with your fellow Rotarians. We hope to see you there!

Upcoming Meetings: All of our Wednesday meetings in January and February are scheduled to take place in the Boxer Pause Room in the University Center at Pacific University. We will have our monthly Third Thursday socials on Jan. 21 and Feb. 18 in lieu of our Wednesday meetings those weeks.

Remember that the program part of our meetings (announcements, club discussion, etc.) will begin at 12:05 p.m. Please arrive in plenty of time to socialize and grab lunch before the meeting begins.

Announcements At Meetings: If you have an announcement that you would like to give at a meeting, please let President Andrea know in advance. This will assist her in planning out our full meetings better. Thank you!

New Club Name Tags Available: Our Membership Committee has reviewed and developed a new name tag for members of our club. The new tag is rectangular in shape with the Rotary logo at the top, the club member’s name, the year that they joined the club, and “Rotary Club of Forest Grove” at the bottom. The name tags are produced by Russell-Hampton, a licensed supplier of Rotary merchandise.

The new name tags will be presented to new members upon their induction into the club. Our Membership Committee chair, Evelyn Orr, will be taking orders for any current members who would like to upgrade their badge. Members will be responsible for the cost of their new badge. Badges cost $12.65 each, with quantity discounts available.

If you would like to purchase a new name tag, please contact Evelyn Orr via email by no later than Saturday, Feb. 14.

Pickleball Evenings: Our club is sponsoring the weekly indoor pickleball gatherings for the second straight year. The evening weeknight games (5:30-8 p.m., Monday-Thursday) are in full swing. Follow The Forest Grove Pickleball Facebook group to get all of the details. The armory is located at 2950 Taylor Way, Forest Grove.

Save The Date – Club Social With Daybreak & Hillsboro Clubs: Mark your calendars for an evening of fellowship with Rotarians from the Forest Grove Daybreak and Hillsboro clubs on Thursday, Apr. 30, from 5-7 p.m. The location of this social is still to be determined. If you are interested in being part of this social gathering, please let President Andrea know.

Save The Date – Steak Feed: Our annual Steak Feed is scheduled for Friday, May 29, 5 to 8 p.m., at the University Center at Pacific University. The Steak Feed is a fundraiser for our involvement in the Rotary Youth Exchange program and a great opportunity to show the local community what we do. More information on tickets and work assignments will be available closer to the event. In the meantime, please contact Geoff Faris or Jeff Duyck with any questions.

Membership Committee: The club’s Membership Committee meets the second and fourth Tuesday at noon in the conference room at the Forest Grove/Cornelius Chamber of Commerce. Its next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 13. For more information, or to get involved, please contact Evelyn Orr or Bruce Cummings.

Youth Exchange Drivers For Weekly Meetings Needed: One of the requirements of the Youth Exchange program is that both inbound and outbound students attend our Rotary meetings. The Youth Exchange Committee is still in need of someone who can pick up Lara and our outbound student, Sophie, from Forest Grove High School weekly at 11:30 a.m., and return them to the school after. While a consistent driver for the semester would be ideal, the committee is open to having people sign up for one-month shifts at a time.

If you are interested in helping out, please contact our Youth Exchange Officer, Sarah Barbour. NOTE: To assist with the transport of Youth Exchange students, you must complete the District 5100 Youth Protection Training and undergo a background check with the district.

Have A Program Idea? Let Javin Know!: Our 2026 program chair, Javin Frelin, is looking for ideas for engaging programs for January and beyond. If you have an idea for a program, contact Javin.

Concours d’Elegance News
Concours Committee Meetings:
Club members are invited to take part in the monthly online meeting of the Concours meeting, which takes place on the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. The next scheduled meeting will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 10.

Concours Committee Updates: At last week’s meeting, Concours Chair Bruce Cummings shared a number of updates related to the operation of the annual car show, which will take place on Sunday, July 19 on Pacific University’s Forest Grove Campus.

Registration & Scoring: Mackenzie Carey is stepping up to run the registration and scoring coordinator for the show, which will include new registration and scoring software that will replace what the club has used for many years. The goal is to streamline the judging process to allow for the class and special awards to be determine quicker. The committee is also planning to have more training for car spotters to make the flow of moving cars onto the field much smoother.

Evening Of Elegance Dinner: Sharon Olmstead has stepped in to lead planning for the annual Evening of Elegance dinner, for volunteers and car owners on Saturday, July 18. While the dinner has traditionally taken place at the Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in North Plains, there is conversation about moving this event into Forest Grove to better tie the community to the Concours.

Saturday Tour: After some conversation, it has been decided that the Saturday car tour will return in 2026. The tour is expected to be refined so that it takes less Rotarians to execute this part of Concours weekend. The tour has been a loss leader for the Concours in recent years. The goal is to have the tour come at zero cost to the show.

New Committee Members: Rotarians Stephanie Magoulas and Carla Kimzey have recently joined the Concours steering committee. There continues to be a need for additional Rotarians to serve in roles to help make the show run smoothly. If you are interested in what role may be available for you, please contact Bruce Cummings.

Poster: Bruce reported that a poster car has been identified and that the design work on the poster is underway. He shared with the club a mood board that defines the color palette that will be used on the poster and with all of this year’s Concours printed collateral.

Merchandise At Willow & Ash:
Are you interested in some Concours merchandise, like a poster, a coffee tumbler or a hat? Willow & Ash is offering some Concours merchandise available year-round! Current selections include Concours posters, hats, coffee tumblers and keychains. Items can be purchased online on the Concours website or purchased at Willow & Ash at 2036A Main Street, Forest Grove. Sorry, no shipping is currently available. Items purchased online will need to be picked up at Willow & Ash.

For More Information: If you have Concours-related questions or are interested in opportunities, please contact Concours Chair Bruce Cummings.

Volunteers are needed during the Mercado’s open hours, Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon and 2 to 4 p.m., and Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., to help staff and maintain the pantry. Family Resource Center: The Forest Grove School District’s Family Resource Center, located at Cornelius Elementary School, is in need of volunteers to assist with sorting donations and preparing food boxes to go out to families in need in our community. The center is generally open and available for volunteers Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you want to volunteer or have questions about volunteering, please contact Melissa Timm.

Volunteers are required to complete a volunteer application through the Forest Grove School District. Visit the District’s Website (Linked Here) To Complete The Application.

If you do volunteer (or have already volunteered) at the Family Resource Center, please report your hours to club secretary Claire Agner. We are working on tracking hours for reporting to Rotary International.

Tuality Plains High School Victory Garden: As part of the construction of the new Cornelius Elementary School, Tuality Plains High School received the rainwater collection and watering system that had been decommissioned at Cornelius. There is a need to move the system, which includes several units to collect rainwater, and to construct a roof for the collection system. Rotarian Steven Barnard, who coordinates the project, would like to get this project done sometime in February.

If you are interested in helping out with this project, please contact Community Service Chair Amanda Hartmann.
