If you did not make it to our last Rotary Club of Forest Grove meeting, here is what you missed…
This Week: A reminder that we will not have a Wednesday meeting this week. Instead, be sure to join us on Thursday, 6:30 p.m., at Zesti Food Carts, 2131 Yew St., Forest Grove, for our monthly social. Enjoy an evening of good food, drink and fellowship with your fellow Rotarians. Bring a friend and introduce them to what Rotary is all about!
No Meetings On March 25 & April 1: With Pacific University being closed for Spring Break, we will not have a weekly meeting on Wednesday, Mar. 25. Steak Feed Is On May 29: Our annual Steak Feed is scheduled for Friday, May 29, 5 to 8 p.m., at the University Center at Pacific University. The Steak Feed is a fundraiser for our involvement in the Rotary Youth Exchange program and a great opportunity to show the local community what we do.
There are changes coming to this year’s event in an effort to draw more interest, including a new branding, an expanded menu and possible local entertainment. More information on the changes, along with ticket sales and work assignments, will be available soon.
Club members are invited to participate in the planning for the event. Please contact Geoff Faris or Jeff Duyck for details.
Club Nametags: If you have not ordered your new club nametag, there is still time! The new nametags will have the member’s name and the year they joined the club, and are being provided at no cost to members. If you are still interested in order, please contact Membership Chair Evelyn Orr.
Club Scholarship Applications Now Open: Applications are now being accepted for the 2026 edition of the Rotary Club of Forest Grove’s Scholarship Program. The program is open to graduating high school seniors who live in the Forest Grove, Banks and Gaston school attendance areas. The program is made possible with proceeds from our annual Concours d’Elegance car show.
Scholarships are awarded to help pay for the first year of college or vocational school. The scholarship may be used at any such school in the United States.
The application deadline is Friday, Apr. 10. NOTE: With the Going Merry website being discontinued, the application process has changed. Full details are available on the Scholarship Page on the club website.
Bring A Guest Challenge: We’re kicking off our Bring a Guest Challenge! Join us on Wednesday, Apr. 8, and bring a friend to experience Rotary, to enjoy lunch on us, and meet fellow members. Guests will get a warm introduction to our club while we receive an update on our current endowment. One guest, one conversation, one invitation — let’s share the Rotary experience!
RYLA Applications Open: Do you know a young leader age 19 to 32 who could benefit from a weeklong inspiring leadership experience? Applications are now open for the 2026 District 5100 Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA), which takes place July 11-17 at the Menchua Retreat & Conference Center in Corbett. For seven powerful days, participants dive into immersive leadership training, relationship-building, and personal growth that has sparked countless Rotary journeys. It’s not just a program—it’s a launch pad.
To learn more about the impact of RYLA, read the recap of last week’s program presented by Mallory Hiefield, who attended RYLA last year. If someone is interested in applying, please contact Andrea Stewart.
Save The Date – Club Social With Daybreak & Hillsboro Clubs: Mark your calendars for an evening of fellowship with Rotarians from the Forest Grove Daybreak and Hillsboro clubs on Thursday, Apr. 30, from 5-7 p.m. The location of this social is still to be determined. If you are interested in being part of this social gathering, please let President Andrea know.
Vision To Action Workshop – May 9: Help us shape the future of the Rotary Club of Forest Grove. Club members are invited to a Vision To Action Workshop, facilitated by District 5100, on Saturday, May 9, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the Boxer Learning Center in Pacific University’s Stoller Center (athletic complex). The workshop is designed to help us think about how we want our club to progress and grow into the future, and help shape our club’s three-year action plan (something that Rotary International is now requiring for all clubs). All club members are invited to participate. More details coming soon.
Pickleball Evenings: Our club is sponsoring the weekly indoor pickleball gatherings for the second straight year. The evening weeknight games (5:30-8 p.m., Monday-Thursday) are in full swing. Follow The Forest Grove Pickleball Facebook group to get all of the details. The armory is located at 2950 Taylor Way, Forest Grove.
Membership Committee: The club’s Membership Committee meets the second and fourth Tuesday, 4 p.m., in the conference room at the Forest Grove/Cornelius Chamber of Commerce. Its next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Mar. 24. For more information, or to get involved, please contact Evelyn Orr or Bruce Cummings.
Youth Exchange Drivers For Weekly Meetings Needed: One of the requirements of the Youth Exchange program is that both inbound and outbound students attend our Rotary meetings. The Youth Exchange Committee is still in need of someone who can pick up Lara and our outbound student, Sophie, from Forest Grove High School weekly at 11:30 a.m., and return them to the school after. While a consistent driver for the semester would be ideal, the committee is open to having people sign up for one-month shifts at a time.
If you are interested in helping out, please contact our Youth Exchange Officer, Sarah Barbour. NOTE: To assist with the transport of Youth Exchange students, you must complete the District 5100 Youth Protection Training and undergo a background check with the district.

Last Week’s Program: Mallory Hiefield, RYLA
Mallory Hiefield is making the most of her Rotary experience. The associate director of athletics and senior woman administrator at Pacific University, Hiefield has been a member of our club since 2024 and, last year, attended the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards program. Hiefield presented on the RYLA experience at last week’s meeting.
When she first applied and decided to attend, Hiefield did not know much about the program. Even when she arrived, she said that RYLA was “mysterious” since no one really tells you what to expect.
What Hiefield found was that RYLA was a very intensive leadership experience, with lots of guest speakers and group activities. She compared it to summer camp for adults, with more seminars and guest leaders. The District 5100 RYLA had 24 participants participating in activities and being engaged by 28 guest speakers.
Hiefield enjoyed the opportunity to step back and reflect on her own leadership style, skills and the trajectory for her future. There were activities designed to make her think and learn from other’s leadership styles and traits. The biggest benefit, she said, was being able to look at her daily life and how scheduled out she is. It allowed her to step and ask about what she wants from her life and what her life goals are. It also helped build her confidence and voice as a leader.
Another big thing for Hiefield was the connections she was able to make with other participants. She felt like she was on the older side of the 19 to 32 age range, and noticed that those participants still in college had a different view than those who are already on the career path.
If you know of someone who could benefit from the RYLA experience, or if you are interested, applications are now open. Our club typically sponsors one person to attend RYLA each year. To learn more about the process, contact Andrea Stewart, astewart@pacificu.edu.
