Rotary Rewind – Nov. 14, 2018
If you didn’t make it to this week’s Rotary Club of Forest Grove meeting, below is an overview of what you missed.

NO MEETING THIS WEDNESDAY! Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, we will not meet this Wednesday, Nov. 21. We wish all of you a great holiday and hope to see you at Prime Time on Wednesday, Nov. 28.

Announcements
Hope for the Holidays:
We are now collecting funds to assist local families for our annual Hope for the Holidays service project. Thank you to those of you who pledged this last Wednesday. We will also collect funds and pledges at our noon meetings on Wed., Nov. 28. You can also give donations directly or by credit card through Ken Cunningham. Help our club make the holiday season just a little bit brighter for local needy families! This year’s shopping excursion will be on Tues., Dec. 18.

If you know of a family that would be a candidate for Hope For The Holidays, download and fill out the attached nomination form. To be considered, forms must be submitted to Claudia Yakos by Mon., Dec. 10 at 10 a.m.

Rotary Foundation Update: To date, club members have contributed a total of $2,590 towards The Rotary Foundation and $845 towards PolioPlus. We have a good start on reaching our club goals of $9,000 for TRF giving and $1,500 towards PolioPlus giving. Thank you!

Holiday Parade: Plans are in the works for our Rotary float for the Forest Grove Holiday Light Parade, which will be on Sat., Dec. 1 at 5 p.m. Make plans to not only march in the parade, but to help put the float together. Details forthcoming on float work party days and times!

We Are ShelterBox HEROes!: Thanks to the generosity of everyone in the club, we have become a ShelterBox HERO Club! The Rotary Club of Forest Grove has been recognized as a bronze level HERO Club, committing to give $1,000 annually to ShelterBox over a three-year period (we received credit for contributions we made in 2017). Thank you to everyone for supporting this important Rotary partner.

Wednesday’s Program: Melissa Erickson, Adelante Mujeres
Melissa Erickson, Corporate Engagement Officer for Adelante Mujeres, spoke to the club about what’s new with her organization. Adelante Mujeres was founded in 2002 with a mission to provide holistic education and empowerment opportunities to low income Latina women and their families to ensure full participation and active leadership in the community. More than 80 percent of Adelante Mujeres staff identify as Latina and share similar lived experiences as participants in programming. Adelente Mujeres organizes their work in three program areas: adult education, early childhood education and Chicas youth development.

Adelente Mujeres is experiencing a lot of growth in their organization and have launched a capital campaign to help address their need to add more space to enhance their programming. Many of you may have seen the construction going on at their location on Main Street. This renovation will allow for six new early child education classrooms, two adult education classrooms, a commercial kitchen, a “maker space” STEM lounge, and a safe playground for toddlers in the patio area behind the building. They have raised $2 million and are looking to raise an additional $1 million to finish their campaign.

If  you would like to contribute to their growth, click here to donate.
