Rotary Rewind – Dec. 18, 2019

Posted By admin

Seasons Greetings & Happy New Year From The Rotary Club of Forest Grove!

Club Announcements
No Meetings Dec. 25 & Jan. 1:
The Rotary Club of Forest Grove will not meet on Wed., Dec. 25 or on Wed., Jan. 1, in observance of Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

January 8 Meeting: We will meet once again on Wed., Jan. 8, with our weekly meeting taking place in the Boxer Pause room in the University Center at Pacific University (main level, through the dining commons). For that meeting, we will be taking our food though the dining commons as guests of Pacific University. As food is cooked to order, please plan to arrive earlier than our usual noon start time to make sure you get your lunch before we begin.

Hope For The Holidays: Thank you to all our Rotarians, friends, families and Interactors that made Hope For The Holidays another huge success! This year we will able to shop with 24 families, providing each one a $500 gift card to Walmart to help make the holiday a little brighter. In addition, the club provided two $500 gift cards to Forest Grove High School, which students used to purchase food for the school’s new Community Pantry. A bigger report on the event will appear in a future Rotary Rewind.

Some Special Thank Yous:

  • To the Hope For The Holidays Committee, which includes Claudia Yakos, Jim Crisp, Sharon Olmstead and Julia Kollar, who helped bring this great service project together again!
  • To Walmart, which allowed us to use their Cornelius store again for the event, provided cookies and holiday wrap and provided a special checkout lane specifically for our event.
  • To Rotarians who once again donated over $12,000 to make this event happen!

Youth Citizens of the Month: We honored our latest Youth Citizens of the Month at our Dec. 18 meeting. Our congratulations to Austin Walker of Gaston High School and Garrett Smith of Gaston Junior High School, our December honorees! We will profile them in the near future on our website, fgrotary.org.

Thank You Julia!: Wednesday’s meeting marked the last with Julia Kollar as our program chair. Thank you, Julia, for all of your exceptional work on bringing the programs together during 2019 and we look forward to your upcoming year as club president beginning in July!

Adelante Mujeres: At our Dec. 18, we were honored to join with the Daybreak Club in presenting a ceremonial $10,000 check to Adelante Mujeres. Both clubs donated $5,000 during 2019 to help the organization with the opening of its new building in downtown Forest Grove. Lupe Hernandez and Monica Rotta were present from Adelante to receive the presentation.

People Of Action Award: Chris Barron presented this week’s People of Action award to Amy Tracewell. Congratulations, Amy!

Have A Program Idea?: If you have an idea for a program or would like to present something yourself, let our incoming program chair, Bryce Baker, know. He will also have a program planning board at meetings so you can see what is on deck and what dates may be available.

Next Week’s Duty Roster for Jan. 8, 2020: Make note of your assignment!
Greeters:
Paul Waterstreet & John Welch
Thought for the Day: Jerry Hoerber
Rototeller Article: Lorrie Hutchins
Raffle Prize: Jerry Frye

Last Week’s Program: FGHS Choir & Orchestra & Joint Meeting With Daybreak
As has become tradition in December, we were joined by the Chorale and Chamber Orchestra from Forest Grove High School for some songs of the season. The choir and orchestra both performed some holiday favorites before the two groups came together to perform part of Schubert’s Mass In G.

In another part of what is becoming a tradition, the meeting was also our joint meeting with the Forest Grove Daybreak Rotary Club. We were proud to have our friends and partners join us for the music and fellowship!
